#1: From 2D to 2.5D and everything in between

Okay! Here we go!

I have no idea how to do a dev log so I guess I'll just say what I've been doing? ...Maybe?
So I am currently laying down the foundations of the game and all the basic functions such as movement, combat, and some camera work.
I promised myself that I wouldn't do any major work before the new year so all that I've been doing have just been ground work and honestly figuring out how to create a beat'em up game akin to TMNT: Shredder's Revenge as this is a game type I've never created before or haven't played in recent years.

Part of this was figuring out how to get the jumping to work. I'm not the best programmer but I can get stuff to work. However, developing my own gravity system within 2D to get the feel just right and to make it work on the nonexistent Z plane within 2D was just waaay out of my skillset and patience. So after scrounging around all the unity discussion boards, I came to the conclusion that I'm going to drop trying to develop my own system in 2D and just move the entire project from 2D to 3D... or 2.5D in this case.
My reason for this is to just be able to utilize Unity the gravity system and make it look like it's within 2D. To my surprise, it worked wonderfully! It looks and feels just like the jumping for TMNT.

Below I have depicted my setup for the game. Everything tilted at a 45 degree angle. This is my placeholder scene with placeholder images that some people may recognize, only to be used for me to understand how to get everything set up for my artist once I get her on board with the project so we can hit the ground running.

If anyone knows a better way for me to handle collisions so that they are easier to setup along the lines of the background image let me know, I'm just working with Box colliders as the moment.

Other than movement and collisions, I also got Cinemachine going on the project to follow the player and to lock in at specific points, and then unlock when a certain requirement was met.

Overall, other than my frustrations of why I can't hire anyone to program for me and impatience that I'm trying to shove down in the depths of my soul, the beginnings of this project are going well! Thank god for Playmaker to make my programming logic be logical and work...

Anyways,  I'm still trying to figure out how to make this dev log into a video series and I don't know where to start with that so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love it hear it!

That's all that I have for y'all! See you next time!
